The Chagres Challenge

Surprising Challenge that awakens the spirit of the most intrepid.

This tour constitutes a wonderful experience that awakens the spirit of the most intrepid. You will be taken from Panama City to the Chagres National Park where you will begin your day. A 4x4 vehicle will be used to take you to the small town of San Cristobal, beyond the Cerro Azul an area farther than the Chagres National Park. Afterwards you will walk for two hours to the rafts on a river beach.

This is a scenic expedition due to the fact that the river flow protects a primary rainy forest. Here you will see the tropical fauna including various monkey species and if you are lucky some other mammals that reach the river’s shore to drink water. You will also see many birds and other species that live in the region. The sediment is very low due to the fact that the forest is still virgin. This will give the participants the change of enjoying and swimming in the crystal clear waters.

This river is classified Class II in other words plane and slow currents; however, you will find some rapids classified Class III. This experience in rafts ends when you return to Alajuela Lake then transport to Panama City.

Recommendations:
This expedition requires good physical condition due to the hours you will be walking and rowing on the river.

  Approximate duration: Approximately 11 hours
