Attractive tour to an important park considered as a biosphere reserve.
Attractive tour to one of the most important parks in Panama, the La Amistad International Park, considered as the first Binational Biosphere Reserves in the world located between Panama and Costa Rica. The Panamanian side of the park is part of the mountainous chain called Cordillera de Talamanca.

It occupies 207 000 hectares (511 000 acres) of cloudy forest 95 percent of the park is located between the province of Bocas del Toro and the rest in the province of Chiriquí. The Teribe and Changuinola Rivers are the main water ways of the park and both are considered powerful for the development of the sector.

From Panama City, you can travel on air for 1 hour from the city of David in the province of Chiriqui. Once there you will travel on to Cerro Punta on a one hour bus ride from David. Then from Cerro Punta to the park´s Administrative Center (Las Nubes),another 5 kilometers on bus.

The park´s area includes the largest sector of Panama´s natural forest and together with the Costa Rican side, make up the largest natural forest in Central America. In terms of biodiversity, the area contains 180 endemnic plant species and one of the last major refuge for fauna in danger of extinction like the ocelot, jaguar and tapir. The bird fauna is particularly rich with some 600 species. No other protected area in Central America contains so much viable population, species or life region. The Talamanca Mountain Range homes an estimated 4% of all the land species on Earth.

Once you arrive to the park you should be ready for adventures in rivers and walking through the mountains in its dense and humid forests.

You will be able to carry out magnificent walks on the short distant paths in the Chiriquí region like in La Cascada and the Retoño. It has a very nice climate, while you go bird watching for species like Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno), a beautiful exhuberant bird, as well as discover the beauty of the green landscape, its flora and fauna. Since this area is located 2 000 meters (6 600 feet) above sea level, you must be prepared for this altitude.
