Panama is priviledged in being located between two oceans: Pacific and Caribbean Sea. The name of “Panama” comes from the indigenous language meaning abundant fish, excellent name for a country that registers some 146 world fishing records, including species like wahoo, black merlin, sail fish and others.
Extraordinary installations in the Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gattun Lake, give amateurs and professionals the chance of submerging to the corals in transparent waters or appreciate from the surface the abundant and variety of marine life. Fishing in Panama is seasonal, there is no bad season but different types of fish will be more abundant in certain months of the year.
The fishing tournaments are sponsored by the Yacht Clubs and Fishing in Panama, the Balboa Yacht Club, and other fishing association that work in Panama City and Bay of Piñas; there are also boats to rent to fish offshore in the Gulf and Pacific.
